The second edition of the “Gjon Mili” International Video Art Festival will commence on November 15 in the city of Korça, at the Digital Arts Gallery, with a special opening event titled “Jazz Night, Video Arts and Experimental Works.”
This festival pays tribute to the internationally renowned photographer Gjon Mili, an artist who introduced a new approach to visual expression through his pioneering experiments with light and movement. In its second edition, the festival has established itself as an important platform for artists from around the world, fostering creativity and innovation in the field of video art.
This year, the festival has attracted a significant number of artists from across the globe, resulting in a highly competitive selection process. Out of 2,690 applications from 195 countries, only 95 artists have been selected to participate, representing some of the most notable talents in contemporary art.
The selected artists will present their works across five main categories: Video Art, Documentary Film, Short Film, Narrative Film, and Animated Film.
As a platform for contemporary art, the “Gjon Mili” festival has quickly become a recognized destination for enthusiasts of experimental visual expression, as well as for artists seeking to challenge conventional boundaries. The event brings together both emerging and established creators from diverse cultural backgrounds, offering audiences the opportunity to experience a wide range of artistic styles and perspectives.
Unlike traditional cinematic formats, video art offers an experience that is not bound by linear storytelling. At the “Gjon Mili” festival, artists explore a variety of techniques, often combining multiple media to create works that convey complex emotions, ideas, and messages.
This experimental spirit positions the festival as a vital space for those interested in exploring new forms of visual language.
Gjon Mili – the inspiration behind the festival – was a distinguished Albanian photographer known for his innovative use of light and motion to capture dynamic artistic moments. Through his work, he redefined photographic practice and challenged the conventions of his time. His experiments with moving light and visual effects continue to serve as a powerful source of inspiration for contemporary artists.
In honoring his legacy and promoting artistic experimentation, the “Gjon Mili” festival provides artists with an exceptional opportunity to present their work in an environment that encourages creativity and exploration.
The second edition, which will run until December 22 and will also take place in New York, aims to engage audiences with new forms of visual art and expand their understanding of contemporary artistic expression.
The “Gjon Mili” International Video Art Festival is more than a cultural event; it is a space where ideas and creative energies from around the world converge. All enthusiasts of visual art are invited to explore these unique works and experience the diverse emotions and perspectives brought forward by the participating artists.
